For The Love of Water (FLOW) is a summary of news from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.

This collaborative project converted impervious alleys into eco-friendly, permeable surfaces designed to enhance stormwater management and resilience, demonstrating Markham’s commitment to sustainable urban design and climate-conscious stormwater solutions.

The McCook Reservoir is one of the largest across the state, collecting water from millions of homes in the county, as well as the rain that falls down the sewer on the streets during storms.

The MWRD held an open house at SWRP earlier this month, providing interactive demonstrations, presentations and tours of the facilities to educate all ages on the critical work that takes place each day to serve 2.2 million people living in central Chicago and 46 surrounding suburbs.

The team placed in all five Operations Challenge events, garnering first place in the Lab and Process events, third place in the Maintenance, Safety, and Collections events, and first place overall among all teams competing.

Village of Glenwood, partners from the MWRD and community members will unveil the new Glenwood Levee at George Arquilla Park, working to mitigate flooding for 29 homes and other community structures impacted by overbank flooding along Thorn Creek.
