It has taken decades of cooperation between environmental groups and elected officials — including at least four mayors — to clean up the river.

The Egan WRP serves the communities of Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Roselle.

The MWRD is pleased that our efforts over the past century, including the planning and construction of the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has greatly improved water quality in our area waterways.

The study analyzed the species of fish that spawn in the Chicago River to sustain resilient and biodiverse fish communities.

Communities can apply for reimbursement to offset the costs of constructing new stormwater infrastructure, including innovative green infrastructure solutions such as permeable pavement, rain gardens, or bioswales.
