Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago

After more than four years of service to Chicago area taxpayers and the region’s water environment, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) Vice President Kimberly Du Buclet is returning to Springfield.

On May 13, State Representative Du Buclet was appointed to serve as representative of the 5th District as former Rep. Lamont Robinson transitions to the Chicago City Council. Her district covers a diverse section of Chicago, serving parts of River North and the Loop on the north all the way south to parts of the Grand Crossing, Woodlawn and South Shore neighborhoods.

“We are losing a valuable leader, water quality advocate, and friend of the environment, but our loss is still a victory for all of us in Illinois, and we are happy to have a strong ally in Springfield,” said MWRD President Kari K. Steele. “We wish Representative Du Buclet all the best in her new position and thank her for her service and commitment to the MWRD.”

Rep. Du Buclet was elected to the MWRD in November 2018 and was re-elected in 2020. In January 2023, she was elected vice president of the MWRD Board of Commissioners.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Cook County for the last four years,” said Rep. Du Buclet. “I will treasure my time and continue to work with the MWRD in Springfield to help address stormwater issues.”

A native resident of the South Side and a lifelong Chicagoan, Rep. Du Buclet said past experiences of growing up in a home that repeatedly flooded inspired her to work to protect her neighbors in the Chicago area from dealing with the same challenges. She has been a steady presence on the Board of Commissioners, working toward sustainable solutions to address stormwater management, wastewater treatment and resource recovery. She also participated in seminars, panels, outreach and speaking engagements to connect Chicago area residents with the critical resources and information they need to help improve their environment.

Rep. Du Buclet served most recently as chairman of the MWRD’s Budget & Employment Committee, Federal Legislation Committee, and State Legislation & Rules Committee. She also served as vice chairman of the Engineering Committee, Pension, Human Resources & Civil Service Committee and the Procurement Committee. Rep. Du Buclet served as a trustee for the MWRD Retirement Fund and the Chicago Public Building Commission. In 2023, Rep. Du Buclet was appointed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to serve on its 24-member Local Government Advisory Committee. Gov. JB Pritzker will appoint her successor.

No stranger to the important work of the Illinois General Assembly, Rep. Du Buclet served as state representative for the 26th District in 2011-12. While there, she was recognized by and received an award from the Illinois Environmental Council for consistently voting with the environmental caucus.
