"Severe Thunderstorm Watch Chicago: Authorities ask residents to ‘save water’," The Economic Times
The Economic Times: Severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Chicago and surrounding counties until 6 p.m. on Monday. The National Weather Service warned of damaging winds, tornado risk, hail, and flooding. Authorities also urged residents to conserve water and take safety precautions as storms approach the region.
Counties under the watch include Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, McHenry, Will, and Winnebago.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch: What to Expect
The severe thunderstorm watch means residents should be prepared for dangerous weather conditions. Meteorologists said some storms may continue into northwest Indiana later in the day.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch: What Advisory Says
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago declared an overflow action day. Officials said McCook Reservoir is already about 91 percent full.
Residents are asked to delay water use at home to prevent further strain on the sewer system. Suggested steps include postponing showers, reducing toilet flushes, and waiting to run dishwashers or washing machines until after the storms end.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Flood Safety Steps
The NWS also issued flood preparation guidelines to reduce risks during heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to:
- Move valuables out of basements and low-lying areas.
- Clear debris from storm drains to improve water flow.
- Identify alternative travel routes in case major roads flood.
- Relocate to higher ground if flooding occurs.
