Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) will host its 10th annual Sustainability Summit at the Ford Calumet Environmental Center - Big Marsh Park, 11555 S. Stony Island Ave., Chicago, IL on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 10 am - noon.

This event is open to the public, but space is limited. Metered parking is available. 

MWRD Board of Commissioners President Kari K. Steele will serve as emcee. Speakers are:

  • Richard Lanyon, retired MWRD Executive Director and author, will discuss the history of the Calumet Water Reclamation Plant and Cal-Sag Channel;
  • Dr. Theresa Johnston, MWRD Senior Environmental Soil Scientist, will give an overview of biosolids and compost use as sustainable practice and current significant partnerships;
  • Bona J. Heinsohn, CAE Director of Governmental Affairs & Public Relations, will discuss MWRD and the Cook County Farm Bureau’s collaboration to advance nutrient loss goals;
  • Richard Fisher, MWRD Principal Civil Engineer, will give an overview of MWRD’s partnership programs, role of green infrastructure, flood prone property buyouts, and how to apply for grants from public sector resources.

Winners of the Sustainable Landscaping and Biosolids Beneficial Reuse Awards will be presented, and members of the MWRD’s first Community Partnership Council will be announced.
