MWRD to virtually celebrate Women’s History Month

Each year the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) hosts a Women’s History Month event to highlight outstanding staff members and welcome a guest speaker. This year’s program is pre-recorded and will be posted immediately following our Board of Commissioners meeting on Thursday, March 18, 2021.
U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL-02) will make a guest speaking appearance. Congresswoman Kelly was elected to serve the 2nd Congressional District in 2013,
and since that time, she has worked to expand economic opportunity, community wellness, and public safety across the District. She was re-elected in 2020. She is a member of the Health, Energy, and Consumer Protection and Commerce subcommittees which overlaps the MWRD’s mission: to protect the health and safety of the public in its service area, protect the quality of Lake Michigan, our drinking water source, protect businesses and homes from flood damages, and manage water as a vital resource.
MWRD Commissioners will also provide remarks and includes President Kari K. Steele, Vice President Bar- bara McGowan, Chairman of Finance Marcelino Garcia, and Commissioners Kim Du Buclet, Cam Davis, Josina Morita, Eira Corral Sepúlveda, Debra Shore and Mariyana Spyropoulos.
Six honorees representing an array of professions at the MWRD will share their personal pathways to success. Awardees include: Junli Bai, Principal Civil Engineer; Lucy Wilson Cunningham, Laborer Foreman; Kathy Lai, Managing Engineer; Lolita Thompson, Senior Civil Engineer; Malisa Torres, Diversity Officer; and Jen- nifer Wasik, Assistant Director Monitoring and Research. Congratulations to all of our honorees!
