MWRD Commissioner Eira Corral Sepúlveda honored at Hanover Park Arbor Day celebration
In a celebration rooted in community and environmental stewardship, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) Commissioner Eira Corral Sepúlveda was honored by the Hanover Park Environmental Committee during an Arbor Day event held at Hanover Highlands Elementary School.
“Growing up in Hanover Park, I learned the importance of nurturing both our environment and our community,” said Commissioner Corral Sepúlveda. “It’s an honor to return home and celebrate Arbor Day with the next generation of environmental stewards. Planting trees is about more than beautifying our neighborhoods—it’s about creating resilience, cleaner air, and a legacy of care.”
Commissioner Corral Sepúlveda was honored for her outstanding leadership, long-standing commitment to environmental advocacy, and deep roots in the Hanover Park community. As a former Hanover Park Village Clerk, she championed the Village’s Arbor Day and Tree City USA Certification programs, helping build a strong foundation for local sustainability efforts. Her work also extended to civic engagement and equity through her involvement with the Cultural Inclusion and Diversity Committee, fostering unity and representation for all residents.
“Commissioner Corral Sepúlveda embodies the spirit of environmental leadership that Arbor Day represents,” said MWRD President Kari K. Steele. “Her commitment to equity, education, and environmental restoration helps us build greener, healthier communities across the region.”
Since joining the MWRD Board of Commissioners in 2021, Commissioner Corral Sepúlveda has continued her dedication to public service and environmental progress. She plays a vital role in managing regional stormwater, improving water quality, preventing flooding, and guiding the agency’s financial stewardship. She is also a strong supporter of the MWRD’s Restore the Canopy program, which provides free native tree saplings to residents, schools, and community organizations throughout Cook County.
