Why: To unveil a collaborative initiative between MWRD and Cook County aimed at enhancing stormwater management infrastructure across Cook County, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) and the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) are poised to announce a transformative investment of $20 million into 26 critical stormwater management projects across Cook County. Supported by ARPA funding, this initiative underscores a commitment to bolstering community resilience, particularly in underserved areas vulnerable to flooding. 

MWRD President Kari K. Steele will be joined by members of the MWRD Board of Commissioners, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle,  Cook County Commissioners Maggie Trevor (9th District) and Frank Aguilar (16th District), DoTH Superintendent Jennifer “Sis” Killen, Maine Township Supervisor Karen Dimond, Crestwood Mayor Ken Klein, and Schiller Park Mayor Nick Caiafa at 111 East Erie Street, Chicago, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. This gathering marks a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development, aimed at mitigating flooding risks and improving overall community preparedness in Cook County.
