The Nicholas J. Melas Centennial Fountain, 400 N. McClurg Court, will open for the season on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. (Weather permitting). The MWRD will host a very brief ceremony in coordination with 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly.

The fountain was constructed in honor of the MWRD's 100-year anniversary in 1989 and named in honor of Nicholas J. Melas who served as a Commissioner from 1962-1992 and as Board President from 1975-1992. During summer months, the fountain periodically sends an 80-foot water arc across the river.
