Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago

The Nicholas J. Melas Centennial Fountain, located at 400 N. McClurg Court in Chicago, is scheduled to reopen on Friday, August 16, at 11:30 a.m.

In honor of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago's (MWRD) 100-year anniversary in 1989, the Board of Commissioners commissioned Lohan Associates to design a fountain on the north bank of the Chicago River at McClurg Court.

The fountain, which features a modernist sculptural sundial, is named in honor of a long-serving commissioner and president of the MWRD Board.

Each hour from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. (except from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.) during the summer months, the fountain sends an impressive 80-foot water arc across the river.

Join us as we celebrate the reopening of the fountain after its closure for repairs.
