Projects
La Grange Park
With support from the MWRD the village of La Grange Park converted three intersections along Monroe Avenue into permeable surfaces. The project reduces the load on the sewer system and will complement plans to separate additional sewer systems to divert water to nearby Salt Creek.
UIC Green Infrastructure Project
The MWRD’s green infrastructure project at Arthington Mall Plaza at the University of Illinois at Chicago features 37,000 square feet of permeable pavement, new seating, native plants and rain gardens.
Mount Prospect Stormwater Projects
The MWRD worked with the village of Mount Prospect to transform two beautiful park spaces that can now accommodate more stormwater and protect the community from flooding, while also giving the residents a place to gather and play.
Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP)
The Tunnel and Reservoir Plan is a system of deep, large diameter tunnels and vast reservoir designed to reduce flooding, improve water quality in Chicago area waterways and protect Lake Michigan from pollution caused by sewer overflows.
