The MWRD will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Battery E project at the O’Brien Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 8. As the O’Brien WRP nears 100 years of operation in 2028, this project addresses aging infrastructure and new regulatory pressures requiring enhanced water quality standards. On June 18, 2026, the Board of Commissioners authorized plans to award a $389.9 million contract (21-092-3P) to Michels Construction, Inc., making it one of the MWRD's largest single infrastructure investments to date outside of the Tunnel And Reservoir Plan.
