Members of the Illinois General Assembly accompanied MWRD leadership on a tour of several vital facilities that protect public health and the environment on Oct. 7.

Construction has begun on a nearly $400-million wastewater treatment infrastructure project at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s (MWRD) Terrence J. O’Brien Water Reclamation Plant in Skokie.

With upgrades at the O’Brien plant, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago will be able to meet 2030 limits and benefit the Gulf of Mexico.

The MWRD Board of Commissioners has adopted a landmark Strategic Plan to guide the MWRD through 2030 with goals that will yield generations of protection for the region’s water environment.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) will host its 14th Annual Sustainability Summit on Thursday, Oct. 22, bringing together leaders and partners to explore solutions for a more resilient region.

State and local leaders, including Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss and Skokie Mayor Ann Tennes, joined in a groundbreaking ceremony at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago’s water reclamation plant in Skokie to launch a nearly $400 million project to improve water quality.
