Our knowledgeable staff is available to give presentations to all ages, and we welcome opportunities to share our enthusiasm at community outreach events!
Kindergarten through College-aged students
The MWRD’s educational outreach program targets all ages and explains what we do to protect Lake Michigan (our water supply source), the environment, and the health of the communities we serve and beyond.
Students and teachers in grades K-12 can enjoy a lively interactive presentation by our education specialist who will teach you all about the work of the MWRD, including how we treat wastewater, manage stormwater and recover valuable resources. You’ll also learn how we’re improving water quality throughout the region and beyond. Our specialist can even connect you to other MWRD experts in various fields to speak to your group as well.
Meet the Experts
Our team of presenters are experts in their fields and represent various MWRD departments, including engineering, stormwater management, plant operations, microbiology, information technology, water quality/monitoring and others. Staff strive to educate the public about the work of the MWRD and how that work benefits residents, businesses and visitors of the Cook County area.
Colleges, universities, community groups and organizations may request speakers to visit and talk with their groups of 20 or more. Our staff can provide lectures on topics such as stormwater management, the benefits of green infrastructure, our efforts and research around water quality, aquatic and microbiology, and the wastewater treatment process.
Our staff is available any day of the week to participate in community and special events, including back-to-school and environmental fairs, farmers markets, municipality events, career days and STEM-related events. We will distribute literature that describes our mission and projects. Click here to request a Community Event Representative.
